A Day on the Farm

A Day on the Farm

In November 2022, I spent a beautiful afternoon near St. George, South Carolina, at a friend's farm photographing her gorgeous farm animal residents. The farm was home to a variety of animals, including ducks, donkeys, and a highland cow - it was an animal photographer's dream!

I had the opportunity to photograph some truly stunning animals during my visit and I'd like to introduce them to you!

This is Otto, he is a Swiss Brown. Swiss Brown cows are actually considered the oldest dairy breed of cow.

This is Rudy, he is a Holstein/Jersey cross. This interesting cross between two popular dairy cow breeds, showcases the classic beautiful eyelashes and big eyes of a Jersey cow while featuring the large size and spot pattern of a Holstein.

Here is Ginger the Pygmy Alpine goat. Alpine goats make popular pets due to their friendly nature and playful dispositions.

The gorgeous, Freya, the donkey. Did you know that female donkeys are called jennies?

Meet AssparaGus, Freya's colt. (10/10 name, right?)

This gorgeous filly's name is Supernova. An interesting fact about foals is that within two hours of birth, a foal should be able to stand up, walk, and nurse.

Meet Katie the Highland Cow! Did you know that a bull’s horns typically grow forwards or even slightly downwards, and have a much wider base? Cow (females) horns typically face upwards and are longer and finer at the tip.

Lastly, a gorgeous Muscovy duck! All Muscovy ducks have their signature red faces, and while shades and vibrance may vary, they all have a red face.

I had a blast photographing the beautiful animals at the farm! I enjoyed it so much that I even decorated my own house with their portraits. They make a beautiful addition to kitchens, living rooms, kid's rooms, and even offices! I absolutely love farm animals, so getting to photograph them was an amazing experience.

Which portrait is your favorite?
